The toilet tank components have malfunctioned, and we need to replace them. The steps for replacing the toilet tank components can be divided into the following four steps. Here’s a brief introduction for everyone.
How to Change Toilet Water Parts: A Complete Guide:
1、Empty the Tank
Generally, the toilet shut-off valve is located near the toilet. After locating the shut-off valve, turn it clockwise to close it. Next, press the toilet flush button to drain all the water from the tank. If there’s any residual water in the tank, use a dry cloth to wipe it clean. This way, there won’t be any water flowing out when we remove the tank components.
2、Remove the Tank Components
First, loosen the nut on the metal flexible hose connected to the tank's fill valve to separate the supply line from the tank. Next, loosen and remove the fastening component at the bottom of the fill valve, and then lift the fill valve up and out. The next step is to remove the flush valve. To do this, hold the upper part of the flush valve and unscrew it. The flush valve base is secured with screws, which can be loosened and removed using a screwdriver.
3、Install the Tank Components
Prepare the new flush valve and fill valve. Before the installation, clean the area where the components will be installed with a towel or cloth. Then, separate the upper part of the flush valve from the base, align the flush valve base with the installation hole, and tighten the base screws with a screwdriver. After securing the base, place the upper part of the flush valve on the base and twist it to lock it in place. The next step is to install the fill valve. Loosen and remove the nut on the fill valve, insert the fill valve into the tank's water inlet hole, and then tighten the nut to secure it. Finally, connect the metal flexible hose to the tank's water inlet.
4、Check for Leaks
Once the tank components are installed, we can open the shut-off valve to allow water to fill the tank and check if there are any leaks. Next, adjust the float arm of the fill valve according to the water level in the tank. Finally, press the flush button to check if the flush valve operates correctly.
