Many faucets have separate hot and cold water options. It can be inconvenient if a cold water faucet only supplies cold water. Some people may use a cold water faucet as if it were a hot water faucet, but is this feasible?
Can a cold water faucet be used as a hot water faucet?
No, it cannot. This is because the sealing materials used in the two types of faucets are different. Cold water faucets typically use rubber gaskets, while hot water faucets use ceramic components. Rubber gaskets do not withstand high temperatures like ceramic materials do, and over time, rubber can easily degrade and lead to leaks. Therefore, it is not advisable to use a cold water faucet as a hot water faucet.
How to maintain faucets:
1. In some households, the kitchen's hot and cold water faucets are closely connected to the sink, making it difficult to disassemble the hoses when repairs are needed. During installation, it helps to screw the valve seat into the faucet body. You can use a longer screwdriver to loosen the screws from the bottom by turning them counterclockwise. Then, push the valve seat and high-pressure hose from the bottom to the top, being careful at the top to avoid damaging the sealing ring.
2. If some supply hoses have been in use for a long time and cannot be temporarily loosened due to brittleness or corrosion of the fasteners, you can apply two or three drops of oil on the rusted areas, and then remove the basin faucet.
3. After shutting off the hot and cold faucets in the kitchen, if water doesn’t stop completely at the outlet, it is usually due to a problem with the valve seat of the supply valve, possibly caused by debris blocking the sealing ring. The sealing ring at the bottom of the valve seat may be damaged, or the piping could be compromised. Impurities in the valve seat can lead to this issue.
4. If the water flow from the faucet is lower than normal, it may indicate a leak, as small debris such as sand or gravel might be stuck in the stop valve of a single spray faucet. This situation can typically be resolved by calling a professional repair technician to disassemble and clean the faucet. If the rubber pad is damaged, it will need to be replaced. Hot water faucets tend to have a shorter lifespan due to thermal expansion and contraction, so it is generally recommended to replace the rubber pads on both the hot and cold sides simultaneously.
